No grape juice, no fruit juice! Just water, yeast, sugar, and tea leaves!
12.5% ABV! That’s not a typo. This is not some light bodied delicate table wine!
Pale lemon in color, very clear.
Nose is prominent of a complex bouquet of floral aromas, raw honey, and mint tea.
On the tongue it’s sweet, though not cloying.
The wine has a nice structure and mouthfeel, medium alcohol and medium acidity balance nicely.
The flavor profile of a green tea is there, honey, lemon, ginger, and mint all intermingled.
The finish is pleasant and lingering, showing banana, lemon, and pineapple. Think juicy fruit gum.
It’s certainly an unique wine, something we’ve never experienced before. We quite enjoy.
Green Tea Wine
So just what is it? Well it similar to a dandelion wine. Tea leaves do not naturally contain sugars.
However as we know, yeast ferments sugars to produce alcohol. Therefore, sugar is added to the water and tea mixture so that the pitched yeast can perform it’s heavenly magic!
The surprising result is 12.5% alcohol.
An article written by Megan Crotty for Our State Magazine, quoted winemaker and Native Vines Winery owner Darlene Gabbard, as saying the idea for Green Tea Wine came to her in a dream.
Gabbard, a member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, stated that her Native American heritage taught her to believe in her dreams!
She sourced a blend of tea leaves from Japan to get the flavors true to her liking!
No doubt this wine is different, though in our humble opinion, it’s a very good kind of different!
Our friends Tim and Sue introduced us to La Bouteille, a wine and beer boutique in Greer, S.C. La Bouteille, housed in a historic train depot, stocks a nice selection of local wines and beers!
We love this next picture, four generations of family at Parker-Binns! Bob Binns, the legendary founder of Parker-Binns Winery, casually enjoying the rocking chairs and chatting with Great-Grandson Hunter!

We last tasted this muscadine wine in 2019. Then, it was light salmon in color, as you can see on the right above. This year, the wine is light orange in color as seen on the left in above picture.
Blend of estate grown Norton (Muscadine) and Blanc du Bois (American Hybrid). I’ve no doubt in this year’s blend the Norton is the prominent juice.
Grown and produced in Pine Level, North Carolina.
Serve chilled.
Nose of strawberry jam, Cheerwine, raspberry, pink grapefruit, and orange creamsicle.
The 2019 blend we noted as semi-sweet with crisp acidity. This year the wine is sweet, definitely sweet, with somewhat less noticeable acidity.
Flavor notes of orange creamsicle, strawberry shortcake, cherry, pink grapefruit, tangerine, homemade lemon curd, and bananas foster, with a long finish of fresh Bosc pear.
Overall, this is still a good quality drinking muscadine and hybrid blend. We did seem to enjoy the 2019 blend a little better, yet we absolutely still would recommend for a hot summer day wine.
Pair with a charcuterie plate.
12% ABV.
$10 a bottle.
JenNis Beverage Marketing score of 83 points.
A touch less sweetness would considerably benefit this blend.

Medium-pale lemon in color.
Light almost brilliantly clear rim, showing impressive legs for a white wine.
Pronounced nose with a rose, jasmine, and honeysuckle floral bouquet, expressive with big notes of white peach, lemon, and honey.
Full bodied wine, off dry with medium acidity.
The flavor profile is crisp, with pronounced notes of honey, peach, apricot, pears in syrup, grapefruit, green apple, and a mouth-coating lingering finish of lemon and cheesecake.
13% ABV.
A really impressive offering from Biltmore Winery.
