Results have been calculated and audited! The 2024 North Carolina Mead & Cider Comp announces our Best-in-Show winners! 🏆

Our overall Best-in-Show, Double Gold Winner and top-scoring mead with 93 points, is the Sweetheart Mead from World’s Edge Meadery in Hendersonville. 🥇🥇

Our Best-in-Show Cider and Gold Medal Winner is Susie’s Strawberry Cider with 90 points from Dingo Dog Brewing Company in Carrboro.

Our Best-in-Show Hobbyist entry and Gold Medal Winner is the Peary Spicy Mead with 90 points from Eight Hooves Meadery/ Morgan Leach Andersen!

The 2024 competition judging took place in Asheville, North Carolina.

Our goals are to benchmark the quality of NC Mead & Cider, and to uplift, support, and promote the Mead and Cider producers across the state of North Carolina! 

2024 Judging took place on March 9th in Asheville.

COMPETITION RULES AND GUIDELINES

Please access the Google entry form. Please complete one form per each entry.

All entries become the property of the North Carolina Mead and Cider Competition and will not be returned.

All commercial entries must be produced in a duly licensed facility and intended for commercial sale.

  • Please use the official entry form.
  • Please provide all pertinent information requested on the entry form.
  • Entries and payment are due by the entry deadline at the address listed in this document.
  • Any questions or disputes will be settled by the competition organizers, and all decisions are final.

Shipping

  • Ship to Stardust Cellars or deliver direct to organizers.
  • Please send two (2) 750ml bottles (or equivalent) per entry, four (4) of any smaller bottles/cans.
  • 2024 fees are $60.00 USD per commercial entry and $40 per Hobbyist entry.

Judging

  • The point system, judging standards, and competition process will be discussed prior to judging.
  • All judges are independent of any commercially licensed NC producer.
  • Entries will be poured in a separate area from where judging is conducted.
  • Each glass will be identified only by a number before being sent for judging.
  • Judges are instructed to provide helpful, descriptive and constructive feedback for the entries they judge.

Awards:

  • Gold (first), silver (second) and bronze (third) medals will be awarded.
  • Best in Show will awarded for Best Mead, Best Cider.
  • All judge decisions are final.
